Junior Press is a program that promotes journalism and encourages students to learn about this profession. Those invited to join the program will receive a press pass that allows them access to a pre-game interview with players and a media kit with current Lugnuts information. Students are encouraged to prepare 3-5 questions for the press conference and will have the opportunity to ask these questions like true reporters. Schools may select two students to participate in the program.

Students who take part in the Junior Press program are asked to write a story after the conclusion of the game that is similar in style to what you may see in the sports section of the newspaper. Stories that are e-mailed back to us will be reviewed and displayed on our web site for everyone to read!

STUDENT ARTICLES

Hello, my name is Tim Menzer and over the past season the Lansing Lugnuts played 42 to 43 games. The Lansing Lugnuts have scored about 25 home runs over the season. A question I asked was what is the best part about the game? The exciting part about is the fans, home runs and the extra weekends. On Wednesday, it was a very good game, but the weather was not good for game day. The Lansing Lugnuts played the TinCaps. The TinCaps scored a 5 to 1 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts. Thank you for the opportunity to be on the junior press. I had fun on Wednesday and I hope you did too! Remember Go Nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sincerely,
Tim Menzer

Hello my name is James Johnson. It was another exciting game day at the Cooley Law Stadium.I was lucky enough to be selected as a Junior Press Student Representative. The weather was gloomy, but spirits were high. During the junior press interviews I had a chance to speak to the Lugnut players Lance Durham and Casey Lawrence. Two questions that I asked the players were how did u get interested in baseball? I played baseball growing up as a kid. What are your goals for next season? We want to go to Florida next year as part of spring training. Lance mentioned someday he would like to play in his hometown of Cincinnati. Unfortunately the Lugnuts did not win over the Tincaps, but the excitement continued throughout the game. Thank you for this great opportunity to be on the Junior Press. Go Nutz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sincerely,
James Johnson

WOW! I had the most amazing field trip.  We went to the Lugnuts game. I was a junior press person.  I got to interview two players from the Lugnuts team.  I got to sit in a special spot right behind third base.  I got to see and have my picture taken with big Lug. I saw the people who announce the game and play the music.  My favorite part was when the Lugnuts were pitching, a guy on the other team was steeling so the Lugnut pitcher was looking at him. The pitcher acted like he was going to pitch and he threw the ball to the other player and he was out.  Close to the starting of the game Shelby and I got a baseball.  We were one of the first students to get a baseball. At the middle of the game my grandpa got me and Shelby a pop. Shelby's dad got us hotdogs. At half time we went and showed the class our baseballs they were signed by three players on the other team, they were the only ones that stopped and took their time signing the ball.   We have to look their names up online so we actually know who they are.   The best part about the Lugnuts is it was fun and Shelby and I enjoyed it.

Wow! I had the most exciting time at the Lugnuts game! I went to the Lugnuts game for a school field trip, it was AMAZING! My absolute favorite part was when they had the shoe race, it was cool that one of the contestants was one of my friends. My second favorite part was when Alana and I interviewed two of the Lugnut’s ball players. The ball player’s names were Dan and Casey. When the part came where you had to ask questions I was so nervous I only asked ONE question! But some other kids thought of some pretty decent questions, so I wrote down some of theirs. Here's one of the questions someone asked “If you could be on a major league team what one would you be on?”  Dan's answer was “I would be on the Blue Jays.”  Casey's answer was “Blue Jays.”  After the interview we did some other really fun things. For example Alana and I got our picture taken with the Lugnut’s mascot Big Lug. After all of that they started the press tour, it was AWESOME!  We went from where they do the music to where they decide on strikes and things. The field trip was FUN, I don't think it was a plain trip to a ball game, I think it was a special one.
