Lugnuts edge Bowling Green, 4-3

LANSING, Mich. – Right fielder Brad Glenn slugged a tie-breaking two-run homer in the fifth inning, helping the Lansing Lugnuts (5-6) edge Bowling Green (3-8), 4-3, on Sunday afternoon on Jackson Field.

The Lugnuts entered the bottom of the fifth trailing 2-1 following a two-run Hot Rods rally in the top half of the inning, but soon tied the score on a Ryan Schimpf sacrifice fly.

With two outs and the bases empty, Bowling Green manager Brady Williams brought in Deivis Mavarez (0-1) out of the bullpen. Mark Sobolewski greeted Mavarez with a single, setting up Glenn's two-run shot onto the lawn area beyond the left field wall.

It was the team-leading third home run of the year for the University of Arizona product. Glenn has reached base in all 11 of the Lugnuts' games with a current 10-game hitting streak.

The Lugnuts bullpen made the slim lead stand up. Evan Crawford worked the sixth and seventh innings, allowing a run on three hits, and Aaron Loup recorded the final six outs for his first save.

Lansing starter Ryan Shopshire (1-0) notched the win, allowing two runs on three hits over five innings.

The Lugnuts will go for the sweep of the Hot Rods on Monday night at Cooley Law School Stadium. Lansing right-hander Matt Fields (0-1, 3.12) starts against Bowling Green right-hander Jason McEachern (0-2, 8.31), with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Tickets to the April 26th Crosstown Showdown as well as the entire Lugnuts’ 2010 home schedule are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
