Lugnuts sweep Dragons, 7-3
LANSING, Mich. – The Lansing Lugnuts (11-7) rode balanced hitting and fine relief pitching to a 7-3 victory over the Dayton Dragons (9-9) on Sunday afternoon at Cooley Law School Stadium, completing a three-game sweep.
Entering play with a .279 team batting average, best in the Midwest League, Lansing pounded out 14 more hits against four Dragons pitchers. Every member of the Lugnuts starting lineup hit safely, with the team's runs bunched in a three-run first inning and a four-run fourth inning.
Aaron Loup (2-0) earned the victory, firing 3 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of spot-starter Scott Gracey. Dustin Antolin followed with a perfect eighth before Steve Turnbull gave up a run in the ninth.
Dayton starter Brian Pearl (1-1) shouldered the loss, allowing seven runs on four hits and three walks during his 3 1/3 innings.
It could have been worse for the Dragons. The Lugnuts stranded 14 men on base, including the bases loaded in the seventh and eighth innings.
On Monday night on Jackson Field, the Lansing Lugnuts play the Michigan State Spartans in the Crosstown Showdown, presented by Auto-Owners Insurance. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
