Glaesmann, Hot Rods roll Lugnuts, 6-3
LANSING, Mich. – Todd Glaesmann went 5-for-5, setting a new franchise record, and the Bowling Green Hot Rods (18-17) doubled up the Lansing Lugnuts (23-11), 6-3, before a crowd of 6,712 on Friday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.
A day after the Lugnuts racked up a season-high 18 hits, the Hot Rods avoided a series sweep by notching 17 hits of their own against Lugs starter Jesse Hernandez and a pair of relievers.
Hernandez (Loss, 3-2) allowed 13 of the hits in his 5 1/3 innings, striking out three while giving up four runs. Glaesmann was the main cause of the CMU product’s woes; the center fielder singled and scored a run in the first inning, delivered an RBI triple and scored again in the third, and singled and scored again in the fourth inning.
Glaesmann later added singles in the seventh inning and eighth inning against Aleson Escalante and Brandon Berl respectively, scoring a fourth run in the process, to finish off his record-breaking evening.
Hot Rods starter Roberto Gomez (2-1) was the beneficiary, striking out three while limiting Lansing to two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks in six innings.
Andrew Bellatti pitched the seventh and eighth innings for Bowling Green, serving up Jon Berti’s second home run of the season.
Austin Hubbard (Save, 4) worked around a two-out walk in the ninth.
In the losing cause, Lansing left fielder Kevin Pillar went 3-for-4 with an RBI single.
The Lugnuts finish their seven-game homestand with a 4-3 record and now head out to Dayton, Ohio, for a four-game series against the Dragons. Right-hander Anthony DeSclafani (2-1, 2.74) starts the 7:00 p.m. opener on Saturday, opposed by Dayton northpaw Daniel Tuttle (1-1, 2.84).
Lansing returns home on a Ladies Night, Wednesday, May 16th, to open a three-game series against Fort Wayne on Jackson Field. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.# # #
