Tepera, Lugnuts curb Hot Rods, 4-1
BOWLING GREEN, Kent. – Ryan Tepera allowed one run over six innings and Brad Glenn supplied a two-run triple as the Lansing Lugnuts (21-14) coasted past the Bowling Green Hot Rods (11-24), 4-1, on Friday night at Bowling Green Ballpark.
The Lugnuts won their fourth straight game and have won all five meetings with the Hot Rods this season.
With two outs in the bottom of the first inning, Ryan Wiegand drilled an RBI double to give Bowling Green a 1-0 lead.
That was the extent of the offensive output for the Hot Rods, as Tepera (3-1) combined with a trio of relievers to allow only three hits and three walks over the next eight innings.
Tepera added a season-high seven strikeouts in his finest start since an outing of seven scoreless innings against Bowling Green on April 17.
On the other side, the Lugnuts tallied twice in the second inning against Hot Rods starter Wilking Rodriguez (1-3) to seize the lead for good. Four innings later, Glenn pounded a ball off the wall in straightaway center field to plate both Ryan Goins and Ryan Schimpf for a three-run advantage
Both Goins and Sean Ochinko provided two-hit games for Lansing, which kept its Midwest League-leading team batting average at .274 with an eight-hit showing.
On Saturday night at 8:05 p.m. ET, Lansing and Bowling Green play the third game of their four-game series. Right-hander Ryan Shopshire (2-1, 6.21) will start for the Lugnuts against Hot Rods left-hander Kyle Lobstein (1-2, 5.79).
The Lugnuts return home on May 21st to open a seven-game homestand. Tickets to all Lugnuts home games are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
