Turnbull, Lugnuts survive Bees, 6-4
BURLINGTON, IA – Steve Turnbull coaxed a game-ending double play ball from cleanup hitter Joey Lewis, and the Lansing Lugnuts (33-27) quelled a last-ditch rally to hold off the Burlington Bees (21-40), 6-4, on Friday night at Community Field.
The Bees trailed the Lugnuts 5-0 and 6-1, but climbed back within two runs on J.D. Alfaro's two-run single in the bottom of the ninth. Turnbull relieved Brian Slover and hit Wil Myers with a pitch to load the bases, but induced the 4-6-3 twin killing from Lewis to record his 15th save in as many chances.
Lansing starter Ryan Tepera (6-2) allowed an unearned run in seven innings to earn the win, supported by the fifth home runs of the season by Brad Glenn and Sean Ochinko.
Burlington spot-starter Dusty Odenbach (2-5) took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks in three innings.
Kevin Nolan went 3-for-5 in the win, though he also committed one of three Lugnuts errors. Three of Burlington's runs were unearned.
Lansing sends left-hander Egan Smith (1-0, 4.50) to the mound on Saturday night at 7:30, opposed by Bees right-hander Tyler Sample (2-3, 4.47).
The Nuts return home on Tuesday, June 15th, for a doubleheader against the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Tickets to all Lansing Lugnuts home games are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
