Frawley, Captains walk-off Lugnuts to end first half, 3-2
EASTLAKE, OH – Casey Frawley led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a home run to left-center, launching the Lake County Captains (44-25) to a 3-2 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts (36-33) on Sunday afternoon at Classic Park, the final game of the first half.
The Captains improved to 6-0 against the Lugnuts with the three-game home sweep, holding Lansing's league-leading offense to just two runs in each game.
Frawley's fifth homer of the season victimized reliever Brian Slover (2-3), the first home run of the year allowed by the Lugnuts right-hander.
It also ended a long string of zeroes on the scoreboard.
Jeremie Tice's two-out, two-run single in the first inning gave Lake County a short-lived advantage, matched in the second inning by consecutive RBI singles by Justin Jackson and Chris Hopkins.
Lugnuts starter Matt Fields settled down to work six strong frames, allowing only three hits. Evan Crawford followed with a scoreless seventh and Slover hurled a perfect eighth to bring the deadlocked game into final inning.
Tyler Sturdevant (3-0) earned the win in relief for the Captains, firing the final 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
The Midwest League breaks for the All-Star Game, to be held for 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Lugnuts' A.J. Jimenez, Ryan Schimpf, Chad Jenkins, and Aaron Loup are scheduled to attend the festivities.
Lansing opens the second half at Cooley Law School Stadium at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, June 25th, beginning a three-game series with the Dayton Dragons.
