Ochinko, Lugnuts double up Hot Rods, 4-2

BOWLING GREEN, Kent. – On the same night South Carolina won the 2010 NCAA College Baseball World Series, 2009 CWS champion Sean Ochinko lined a two-out, two-run ninth inning double, lifting the Lansing Lugnuts (4-1; 40-34) to a 4-2 victory over the Bowling Green Hot Rods (3-2; 34-40) on Tuesday night at Bowling Green Ballpark.

With the game tied at 2-2 in the ninth after the teams exchanged two-out tallies in the first and fifth innings, Bowling Green reliever Deivis Maverez (1-5) issued one-out walks to Kenny Wilson and Ryan Goins before retiring newcomer Yan Gomes on a lineout to shortstop.

Ochinko followed by working the count full before lacing a Mavarez delivery down the left field line to plate his teammates for the lead.

The blow made a winner of Nestor Molina (5-2), who twirled two shutout innings in relief of Egan Smith. Steve Turnbull struck out two in a perfect ninth for his league-leading 17th save.

Smith allowed two runs on six hits in six innings in a no-decision.

Lugnuts shortstop Goins went 2-for-4 with three runs scored to lead the winning cause.

In Wednesday's 8:05 p.m. rubber match, Lansing right-hander Dave Sever (2-3, 4.15) duels with Hot Rods right-hander Alexander Colome (4-5, 3.05).

The Lansing Lugnuts' next home game is on Sunday, July 4th, at Cooley Law School Stadium, a special 7:05 p.m. start time with LAFCU Fireworks following the game.

Tickets to all Lugnuts home games are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
