Patterson, Lugnuts overpower Silver Hawks, 11-3

BOX SCORE | PLAY-BY-PLAY

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Three home runs powered the Lansing Lugnuts (6-6, 53-28) to an 11-3 victory over the South Bend Silver Hawks (6-6, 41-41) on Tuesday evening at The Cove.

The first home run was a three-run smash from Kevin Patterson (4-for-5), who was a triple of shy of the cycle. His home run was a part of the Lugs’ five-run fourth inning.

Gustavo Pierre (2-for-5) scored twice and walloped a solo shot in the sixth inning against Jesse Darrah in addition to a fourth-inning double.

Kevin Pillar (2-for-5) put an exclamation point on the Lugnuts’ 13-hit offensive performance with a three-run blast in the ninth inning off Alex Capaul.

The Lugs’ starter Noah Syndergaard (Win, 5-2) pitched well in five innings of work. The righty struck out six, walked none, allowed three hits and gave up just one unearned run. Syndergaard has struck out 24 and walked just four in his last four outings spanning 14 innings.

Andy Burns reached three times, scored a trio of runs, stole two bases. In the bottom of the 8th, with the bases loaded and the tying run at the plate, Burns made a highlight-reel diving catch in shallow left to end the inning.

South Bend starter J.R. Bradley (Loss, 5-5) finished after five innings of work having allowed seven hits and six runs.

Kramer Champlin tossed a pair of innings out of the bullpen for Lansing and allowed two runs while striking out two. Brandon Berl and Phil Brua followed Champlin and each added a scoreless frame.
The Lugnuts finished their nine-game road trip with a 4-5 record.

Lansing returns home on Wednesday, July 4th for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Great Lakes Loons featuring LAFCU Fireworks. Righty Anthony DeSclafani (6-2, 2.93) starts for the Lugs. The Loons will start right-hander Duke von Schamann (0-0, 0.00). Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
