Lugnuts run into a Wall, fall to Loons, 8-0

MIDLAND, Mich. – Josh Wall tossed a three-hit shutout and the Great Lakes Loons (11-2; 54-28) cruised to an 8-0 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts (7-6; 43-39) on Wednesday night at Dow Diamond.

The Lugnuts managed only a trio of singles and walks against Wall (5-4), failing to advance a runner past second base while striking out six times.

Meanwhile, the Loons offense bombarded Ryan Shopshire (6-6) and a pair of relievers for 19 base hits. Great Lakes scored twice in the first inning, twice in the third inning, once in the sixth, twice in the seventh, and tacked on one more in the eighth.

Each member of the Loons starting lineup hit safely, with the top three members in the lineup -- Nick Buss, Rafael Ynoa, and Angelo Songco -- notching three base hits apiece.

In defeat, Lugnuts shortstop Ryan Goins went 0-for-3 with a walk to extend his on-base streak to 21 games.

On Thursday night at 7:05 p.m., the Lugnuts and Loons play the middle affair in their series. Nuts right-hander Matt Fields (2-3, 3.44) starts against Great Lakes right-hander Brett Wallach (4-0, 4.33).
