Hot Rods romp past Lugnuts, 11-5
LANSING, Mich. – Kyle Spraker supplied a two-run homer and an RBI single in a six-run fourth inning, and the Bowling Green Hot Rods (8-8; 39-46) rolled to an 11-5 rout of the host Lansing Lugnuts (8-8; 44-41) on Saturday night on Jackson Field.
Perhaps the first batter of the game was a harbinger of what was to come: Cody Rogers led off with a booming home run to deep right.
After a Mark Thomas two-run double in the third gave Bowling Green a 4-1 lead, the Hot Rods put the game away in the fourth.
Spraker's second home run of the year, a liner to left, was followed by an inside-the-park Bennett Davis home run for a 7-1 lead, chasing starter Dave Sever (2-6) soon after. In his Lugnuts debut, Juan Hernandez allowed a Ryan Wiegand RBI single and a Gabe Cohen bases-loaded walk. Matt Wright relieved Hernandez and gave up Spraker's third run batted in of the at-bat.
From there the game was nearly academic, with the Lugnuts chipping mildly away at the lead with solo tallies and in the sixth and seventh and a Brad Glenn two-run homer in the ninth.
Rogers went 3-for-4 with two HBP's and four runs scored, leading the attack for the Hot Rods.
Bowling Green starter Alexander Colome (6-5) allowed two runs on five hits in six innings, striking out six, to earn the win.
In the losing cause for Lansing, Glenn went 2-for-4 with three RBI's while Ryan Goins went 1-for-3 to extend his on-base streak to a team-high 24 games.
On a Sunday 2:05 p.m. Kids Day, the Lugnuts send right-hander Ryan Tepera (7-3, 3.16) to the mound against Bowling Green left-hander Kyle Lobstein (5-4, 4.27). Pepsi Kids Run the Bases after the game.
