Hot Rods hold off Lugnuts, 6-4
LANSING, Mich. – The Bowling Green Hot Rods (9-8; 40-46) scored four runs in the first inning and held off the Lansing Lugnuts (8-9; 44-42), 6-4, on Sunday afternoon on Jackson Field.
Lugnuts starter Ryan Tepera (7-4) entered the game having limited the Hot Rods to one run through 13 innings in two prior starts, but was greeted by consecutive RBI triples from Tyler Bortnick and Brett Nommensen. Gabe Cohen added an RBI single and Tomas Francisco put in an RBI double before Tepera escaped the frame.
The Hot Rods tacked on important insurance runs in the seventh and ninth innings, providing enough of an advantage to survive two-run homers from Balbino Fuenmayor and Brad Glenn.
Kyle Lobstein (6-4) pitched six innings for the win, and Alex Koronis recorded the final six outs for his third save.
Sean Ochinko went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk in the loss for Lansing. Shortstop Ryan Goins went 0-for-4, ending his on-base streak at a team-high 24 games.
The Lugnuts send right-hander Ryan Shopshire (5-7, 5.46) to the mound on Monday night against Bowling Green, looking to avoid the home sweep.
