Ramirez, LumberKings blank Lugnuts, 3-0

LANSING, Mich. – Erasmo Ramirez twirled eight scoreless innings and the Clinton LumberKings (14-14; 51-46) halted a five-game losing streak as well as the Lansing Lugnuts' (16-13; 52-46) four-game winning streak with a 3-0 shutout on Sunday afternoon on Jackson Field.

Nick Franklin's RBI double in the top of the fourth inning broke a scoreless tie, putting Clinton into the lead for good. Franklin came home two batters later on Tim Morris' sacrifice fly.

Lansing had just squandered its finest scoring opportunity of the game in the previous inning, loading the bases with one out only to see Kevin Nolan ground into a 1-2-3 double play.

That was the last that the Lugnuts would truly threaten against Ramirez (7-4), who scattered five hits and a walk while striking out three.

Mario Martinez's RBI single off of Casey Beck in the ninth added insurance and closed out the scoring.

Brandon Josselyn struck out a pair in a perfect bottom of the ninth, recording his 13th save.

In the loss, Lansing third baseman Kevin Ahrens went 1-for-3 with a double to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.

The rubber match of the three-game series will be held on a 12:05 p.m. Summer Fun Day on Monday at Cooley Law School Stadium, with Lugnuts lefty Egan Smith (4-0, 2.31) opposite Clinton right-hander Nolan Gallagher (0-4, 3.63).

Tickets to all Lugnuts home games are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
