Lugnuts lose fifth straight, 6-1 to Loons
MIDLAND, Mich. – Allen Webster tossed six strong innings and Brian Ruggiano homered, helping the Great Lakes Loons (31-10; 74-36) to an easy 6-1 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts (20-21; 56-54) on Saturday night at Dow Diamond.
The game was completed in two hours and 16 minutes, the shortest nine-inning game of the season for the Lugnuts.
Webster (11-7) allowed only Brad Glenn's 13th home run of the season, striking out four and scattering five hits and a walk en route to the win.
Jordan Roberts pitched the final three innings for his first save.
Lugnuts starter Dave Sever (4-8) shouldered the loss, pitching six innings and allowing three earned runs for the fifth straight start.
Kevin Ahrens went 2-for-3 for the Nuts in defeat. 19-year-old right fielder Michael Crouse added a double in three at-bats in his Lugnuts debut.
The Lugnuts look to snap their losing streak at 3:05 p.m. on Sunday at Dow Diamond, Lansing right-hander Ryan Tepera (9-5, 3.37) opposing Loons left-hander Ryan Christenson (1-0, 4.38).
