Glenn, Lugnuts deal Dragons 22nd straight home loss

DAYTON, OH – Brad Glenn homered and delivered a two-run tie-breaking triple in the 11th inning, lifting the Lansing Lugnuts (22-23; 58-56) to a 5-2 victory over the Dayton Dragons (10-34; 40-72) on Wednesday night at Fifth Third Field.

The outcome marked Dayton's 22nd consecutive loss at home as well as their tenth straight loss to Lansing.

Glenn's team-leading 14th homer broke a scoreless tie in the seventh inning, but the Dragons came back from a 2-0 deficit to force extra innings for the sixth time in the season series.

After Casey Beck struck out Andrew Means with runners at second and third to end the tenth inning, Glenn's opposite-field line drive off of Jamie Walczak (0-3) scored Justin Jackson and Sean Ochinko to give Lansing the lead for good. K.C. Hobson later picked up Glenn with a sacrifice fly to provide insurance.

Beck (1-2) earned the victory, pitching a pair of scoreless innings and striking out three.

19-year-old starting pitcher Drew Hutchison stole the early headlines, pitching five perfect innings with five strikeouts in his Lugnuts debut. He was matched by Dayton starter Jacob Johnson, who fired six scoreless one-hit innings with eight strikeouts.

Another debuting Lugnut, first baseman Hobson went 1-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.

The Dragons had the chance to take the lead in the eighth inning against Steve Turnbull, but right fielder Michael Crouse scooped up Didi Gregorius's single and threw out Kevyn Feiner at the plate. The play ended in a massive collision that left Karim Turkamani dazed, though the Lansing catcher remained in the game.

The Lugnuts send left-hander Egan Smith (4-2, 4.58) to the mound on Thursday night at 7:00 against Dragons right-hander Clayton Shunick (0-0, 3.18) in the middle affair of the three-game series.
