Williams, TinCaps power past Lugnuts, 8-2

LANSING, Mich. – Everett Williams hit two of four Fort Wayne TinCaps (30-18; 66-52) home runs in an 8-2 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts (24-24; 60-57) before a crowd of 11,138 on Saturday night on Jackson Field.

Brad Glenn gave the Lugnuts a 2-0 lead with a two-run single in the first inning, but the TinCaps struck back with a barrage of longballs.

Williams tied the score with a two-run homer in the third against Ryan Shopshire (7-11) and solo homers from Dean Anna in the fifth inning and Jedd Gyorko in the sixth inning put the Caps ahead to stay.

The Caps added a trio of runs in the ninth against Brian Slover and Matt Wright on a Williams roundtripper and a Gyorko two-run single to put the game away.

Jose De Paula (8-3) struck out six batters in four scoreless innings to pick up the win in relief. Jackson Quezada fired the final two innings in hitless fashion for his second save.

The Lugnuts and TinCaps play the second game of their three-game series on a Sunday 2:05 p.m. Kids Day at Cooley Law School Stadium. Lansing right-hander Matt Fields (4-6, 4.04) opposes Fort Wayne left-hander Pedro Hernandez (3-3, 3.97).
