Silver Hawks sink Lugnuts, 4-2

LANSING, Mich. – Keon Broxton knocked a go-ahead two-run triple, Derek Eitel twirled five innings of relief, and the South Bend Silver Hawks (21-30; 51-68) topped the Lansing Lugnuts (26-26; 62-59), 4-2, on Thursday night on Jackson Field.

Trailing 1-0 entering the third inning, Eitel (1-0) took over for prospect Tyler Skaggs and held the Lugnuts at bay in his Midwest League debut, allowing only a Justin Jackson RBI single in the sixth.

The performance allowed Broxton to victimize Lansing starter Dave Sever (5-9) with his league-leading 18th triple of the season in the fifth inning, putting the Silver Hawks on top for good. Chris Jarrett followed with an RBI single for an important insurance run.

Eitel handed the ball over to Brian Budrow, who stranded the bases loaded in the eighth and pitched a perfect ninth for his third save.

Jackson went 4-for-4 in the losing effort, supplying half of the Lugnuts' base hits.

The Lugnuts and Silver Hawks play the rubber match of their three-game series on Friday at 7:05 p.m. The game will feature an Auto-Owners Insurance Bobblehead giveaway as well as LAFCU post-game fireworks.

Tickets to all Lugnuts home games are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
