Silver Hawks drop Lugnuts, 7-4

LANSING, Mich. – The South Bend Silver Hawks (22-30; 52-68) scored solo tallies in seven of their nine at-bats, dealing the Lansing Lugnuts (26-27; 62-60) a 7-4 loss on Friday night on Jackson Field.

The Lugnuts lost four of six games on their homestand, dropping rubber matches in three-game series against South Bend and Fort Wayne.

Silver Hawks starter Adam Worthington (4-5) allowed a run on five hits over seven strong innings to pick up the win, thanks mainly to a relentless offensive attack.

The Hawks picked apart Matt Fields (4-7) for five runs (four earned) on eight hits in his seven innings. Reliever Danny Barnes allowed a run on three hits in the eighth before Casey Beck gave up a home run to David Nick in the ninth.

Randy Rodriguez allowed a pair of late homers to make the final score closer, serving up a solo homer to Jake Marisnick in the eighth and a two-run homer to Balbino Fuenmayor in the ninth.

In the winning effort, Keon Broxton went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and his Midwest League record-tying 19th triple of the season.

Lansing embarks upon a seven-game road trip on Saturday, opening a four-game series at Fort Wayne with a 7:05 p.m. affair.
