TinCaps continue Lugnuts mastery, 3-1

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Fort Wayne TinCaps (35-20; 71-54) continued their 2010 dominance of the Lansing Lugnuts (26-29; 62-62), breaking a late tie on Everett Williams' RBI single en route to a 3-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at Parkview Field.

The Lugnuts fell to 5-14 against the TinCaps in the season series, including 13 of the last 16 meetings. Lansing has lost four straight games overall.

With the score tied 1-1 in the sixth, Edinson Rincon drew a walk from reliever Brian Slover (3-6) and Wande Olabisi doubled him to third. Williams followed with a liner to right field, plating Rincon to put the TinCaps on top. Jeudy Valdez's sacrifice fly brought in Olabisi for a two-run lead.

It was more than enough for Fort Wayne's pitchers, who held the Lugnuts offense scoreless after the first inning for the second consecutive day.

After starter Jerry Sullivan pitched the first five frames, Allen Marona (1-1) came on for the sixth and seventh innings to earn the win. Jackson Quezada worked the eighth and Miles Mikolas pitched the ninth for his ninth save.

Lugnuts starter Drew Hutchison allowed a run on three hits over 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision.

Kevin Nolan and Brad Glenn each went 2-for-4 in the loss, with Glenn supplying an RBI single for the Lugs' only offense.

Lansing and Fort Wayne play the third game of their four-game series on Monday at 7:05 p.m., pitting Nuts southpaw Egan Smith (6-2, 4.66) against Caps right-hander Matt Lollis (3-1, 1.93).

The final Lugnuts homestand will begin on Saturday, August 28th, with the 7:05 p.m. opener of a four-game series against the Dayton Dragons. LAFCU Fireworks will follow the game.

Tickets to all Lugnuts home games are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
