Lugnuts have six named to 2003 MWL All-Star Game

LANSING, Mich. – The final ballots are in. The Lansing Lugnuts will be well represented at this year's Midwest League All-Star Game!!

The midsummer classic, which will be held on June 17 in Comstock Park, MI (West Michigan Whitecaps) at Fifth Third Ballpark, will feature six Lugnut players, two of which will be starters. The six All-Stars ties the most Lansing has sent to the game. The inaugural Lugnuts team had six selections in 1996.

Shortstop Buck Coats (.306, 0 HR, 32 RBI) and designated hitter Donny Hood (.339, 6 HR, 20 RBI) were selected by Midwest League managers as starters, while four Lansing pitchers were also named to the Eastern Division All-Star squad.

Closer Jason Wylie (0.38 ERA, 10 SV) and starters Jae Kuk Ryu (5-0, 1.84 ERA), Justin Jones (2-3, 2.35 ERA) and Andrew Sisco (2-2, 1.78 ERA) round out the All-Star selections for Lansing, which features the top hitting corps and pitching staff in the league.

It has been a memorable first half for all of the Lugnuts All-Stars. Hood hit for the cycle on April 20th and his 13 doubles lead Lansing. Coats had a 38-game streak in which he reached base either via hit or walk and spent time in the top five of the league batting leaders for much of the first half.

Jones helped co-author the first-ever Lugnuts' no-hitter on April 20th and his 54 strikeouts are tops for Lugnut pitchers. Wylie has been dominant out of Lansing's bullpen, allowing just one earned run since April 22nd, a span of 16 appearances covering 17.1 innings. Ryu (you) has been a key asset to a starting staff hindered at times by injuries, going 4-0 since Sisco injured himself during the team's road swing through Clinton. Sisco, whose status for the game is unsure at this time, has already tied the franchise record for complete games with two, hurling back to back efforts on April 22nd and April 28th. He has been on Lansing's disabled list since May 7th.
