Lugnuts Chefs Telders and Smart
win 14th Annual BWL Chili Cook-Off
LANSING, Mich. – Cheeseburger Chili in Paradise, the combined creation of Lansing Lugnuts Director of Food & Beverage Brett Telder and Executive Chef Jenny Smart, was declared the champion of the 14th Annual BWL Chili Cook-Off on Friday, June 5, in downtown Lansing.
The victory was Smart's first and Telder's third in the Chili Cook-Off. Telder had previously accomplished the unprecedented feat of consecutive Chili Cook-Off wins, defeating all comers in 2006 and 2007 while working at the Cadillac Club.
The champion chili comprised shredded cheddar cheese, fresh bacon, "and a small handful of french fries to make it complete," added Telder, who plans to soon serve Cheeseburger Chili in Paradise at Oldsmobile Park.
The Cook-Off dates back to 1996, the same inaugural year of the Lugnuts. Over 50 vendors and thousands of chili lovers showed up for the 2009 event at Adado Riverfront Park. All of the proceeds from the event went to the Adopt a River program and the HOPE Scholarship Connections Program.
