Lugnuts beat Bandits, 3-1
Boone's strong start lifts Lansing

Clinton, Iowa – Just 14 hours after completing the first game of the series against the Quad Cities River Bandits in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the Lansing Lugnuts took the field for game two of the set in Clinton.

Lansing used strong pitching and a 14 hit day to prevail 3-1 at Alliant Energy Field. The win marks the first shutout of the season for the Lugnuts' pitching staff.

Lansing took the lead in the first inning by garnering three consecutive hits off of Quad Cities starter Brian Broderick. Kevin Ahrens doubled to start the rally and was immediately followed by a Darin Mastroianni single to put runners at the corners for the Lugnuts. C.J. Ebarb then singled to left-center field to plate Ahrens, giving Lansing a 1-0 lead.

The Lugnuts made it 2-0 in the fourth inning when Mastroianni tripled and scored on an Ebarb sacrifice fly.

Randy Boone (3-0) took over from there for Lansing, as he bewildered the River Bandits for six innings in the win. Boone scattered four hits and fanned four batters while keeping the Quad Cities off of the scoreboard. It was his first start of the season.

Lansing added another run in the seventh when Wes Stone singled and later scored on John Tolisano's infield single to push the lead to 3-0.

Edgar Estanga threw the final three innings for Lansing as he shut down the River Bandits for his first save of the year. He allowed just one run, which came in the ninth. It is the first run that he has allowed all season.

Broderick (0-2) took the loss for the Quad Cities after allowing two runs over five innings.

Lansing (14-10) and the Quad Cities (14-10) will play the rubber match-up of the series on Wednesday night on the campus of the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Right hander Trystan Magnuson (0-3, 6.57) will make the start for the Lugnuts. He will be opposed by the River Bandits' Mark Diapoules (0-0, 0.00). First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
