Former Lug Dubois nabbed by Jays in Rule 5 Draft!!

For the second straight season the Toronto Blue Jays have nabbed a former Lugnut in the major league Rule 5 draft, selecting 2001 slugger Jason Dubois from the Chicago Cubs in the third round of the major league phase of the 2002 Rule 5 draft this morning at the Baseball Winter Meetings held in Nashville, TN.

Last season, former Lugnut Corey Thruman was selected by the Blue Jays and ended up having a stellar campaign for Toronto. The 1998 Lugnut went 2-3 with a 4.37 ERA in 43 appearances out of the Blue Jay bullpen, gaining his first MLB win on June 10th against the San Francisco Giants.

This time Toronto gambled on Dubois, who battled injuries in 2002 but still put up stellar numbers at "A" Daytona, batting .321 with 20 homeruns and 85 RBI in 99 games. He set the single season homerun mark with the Lugnuts in 2001 when he blasted 24 homers in 118 games.

Players selected in the Rule 5 Draft must remain on their new team's active 25-man roster the following season or be offered back to the original club for $25,000.
