Lugnuts choose Blue Jays as new major league affiliate

| LANSING
- The Lansing Lugnuts are excited to announce that they have signed a two- year
agreement with the Toronto Blue Jays to become their new Midwest League Class
"A" affiliate effective for the 2005 season. The Blue Jays bring a
host of opportunities to the table as the Lugnuts new parent club. Previously
affiliated with the Charleston Alley Cats in the South Atlantic League, the
Blue Jays have a history of being committed to the communities in which they
play. In addition to their commitment to the community, Blue Jay affiliates
have made the playoffs with at least one of their five minor league clubs in
each of the past five seasons and the Auburn Doubledays (A-NY Penn), the team
below the Lugnuts, have made the postseason four of the past five seasons. "We are very excited to be in Lansing," Dick Scott, the Blue Jays' Director of Player Development, said. "It is one of the premier minor league stops and the fans have a ton of passion. We are very happy with the partnership." In September of 1998 the Lansing Lugnuts and the Chicago Cubs signed a deal that changed the Lugnuts affiliation from the Kansas City Royals to the Chicago Cubs. As with their previous affiliates, the Lugnuts and the Blue Jays are excited to build a rewarding, long-term relationship. Jeff Calhoun, Lansing Lugnuts General Manager said, "It was a difficult choice to make, but we're certain we've made the right decision. The city of Lansing has a first class stadium and the fan support for the team is unparalleled in any league. Lugnut fans can be proud that their city was highly sought after as parent clubs looked to make selections for their Class A home." Fans who are interested
in past and present players will still be able to follow all of their favorite
Lugnuts as they progress through the minor league system. Information will be
available at lansinglugnuts.com, as well as during Lugnuts home games and the
radio and Internet broadcast during the upcoming season's alumni reports. |
